Kapok is a light-haired, yellowish-brown seed fiber obtained from the fruit of the Ceiba pentandra species. The highly flammable, soft fibers have a smooth surface and are transparent. The fibers contain both lignin, a woody plant substance, and cellulose, a carbohydrate. Kapok is buoyant and can support up to 30 times its own weight. Although the fluffy fibers are too fragile to spin, they are used for filling mattresses, upholstery, life jackets, as insulation material, and as a substitute for absorbent cotton in surgery.

Gentle to wear, respectful of the planet

Thanks to its hollow structure, kapok is a very light natural fibre - it only weighs one eighth of that of cotton - with excellent moisture absorption and heat retention properties, as well as softness and elasticity.

Kapok production has a low environmental impact, as it does not require toxic or chemical derivatives and uses much less water than cotton.
